A Passage From India

A Great article by a second generation Indian American in today’s New York Times.
I particularly loved her grandfather’s retort to an Englishman upon being asked why he was there in England!

A Tale of Two Cities

I am extremely happy that Paris lost its bid for Olympics. I would have been happier had NY City won it but I can live with London hosting the games as well. Now Paris - Paris I cannot not stand.

French are the most vain people in the world and Paris is probably the most over-hyped city. They think no end of themselves and they have a one point agenda - oppose the Americans. It is a fitting end to their sad and tired socialist dream. The pictures coming out of Paris - with dejected and tired people looking glum were pretty telling.

Pathetic Times of India

A few days ago - TOI was gloating at its high circulation numbers. Apparently, a full 30% Indians turn to TOI for their news. According to TOI - the reason for this apparent success is the fact that TOI has been able to break away from “journalistic bias”. I am not sure what they mean by that phrase but if by journalist bias they mean high journalistic and news gathering standards then they have certainly been able to break away from it. Today’s coverage of Ayodhya attack in Times of India exemplifies this breaking away.

Take a look at the coverage on TOI online. This is their lead article:

Now compare it with BBC’s lead article on the same attack:

Times of India’s articles seems to have been written by an amateaur. It omits a lot of relevant details - for god’s sake it does not even give the time of the attack. Bravo Times of India - now we fully know how fully 30% Indians are getting mislead.
