CK Prahlad is fast becoming one of my favorite columnists/authors along with Thomas Friedman and Maureen Dowd (the last two of New York Times). There was an article today online by CK Prahlad where he is talking about how giving aid, ala Bono and Tony Blair is the wrong way to help developing or poor nations.
Having read Prahlad’s impressive “The Fortune At the Bottom of The Pyramid” I can say that this guy knows what he’s talking about.
Yes – it’s that age old bane of our country – corruption and bribe. NY Times is reporting a story from Banglore on how parents of new borns have to pay bribes to hospital staff to get access to their own child.

Times of India is carrying an article on its website on how some IITians find jobs in Indian bureaucracy to be more exciting than with a multinational organization. Some of the reasons given for this enchantment include power, social prestige and chance to make a difference to the lives of the people.
The question is then that with so many brilliant people how is it that our bureaucracy is so corrupt and in collusion with the politicians is almost always an impediment to growth and prosperity?
Garry Trudeau continues to poke fun at bloggers……

Being a political junkie I am always on the lookout for interesting articles to read, TV shows to watch or radio programs to listen to. While I was in Chicago – I was an ardent listener of AM 780 and even though it rarely provided any editorial commentary it was at least a 24 hour live news program. In the absence of cable TV – I thought it was pretty good and provided me with lots of information during my first US presidential campaign in 2000.
Later – I got a job and got myself cable TV and became an ardent fan of news night by Aaron Brown on CNN and for sometime thought that it was the best thing that ever happened to political analysis. Strange as it might seem – three years in the US and I was still unaware of the National Public Radio (NPR). I got to know about it through sheer luck. An alarm radio in a hotel room was tuned to the local NPR station and I woke up to the most incisive political commentary and news I’d ever heard. Here are some of my favorite programs on NPR. All these programs can be heard on a local NPR station in your city or via the web.
- On Point
- Here On Earth
